We love public schools, equal education, and our ESL students, and we know many of our Philadelphia students need the National Free Lunch Program. If you agree, your support is needed!
A proposed bill in Congress might impact public schools and the lunch program. House Bill 610 (HR 610) will start the school voucher system to be used by children ages 5-17, and potentially begin the DEFUNDING PROCESS of PUBLIC SCHOOLS. In addition, the bill will ELIMINATE THE ELEMENTARY and EDUCATION ACT of 1965, which is the nation’s educational law and provides equal opportunity in education. ESSA is a big comprehensive program that covers programs for struggling learners, Advanced Placement classes, ESL classes, classes for minorities such as Native Americans, Rural Education, Education for the Homeless, School Safety, Monitoring and Compliance and Federal Accountability Programs. The Bill also ABOLISHES THE NUTRITIONAL ACT of 2012 (No Hungry Kids Act), which provides nutritional standards for school breakfast and lunch.
We encourage all parents who love Jackson and support the lunch program for our students to call your US House Representative and let them know your thoughts! If your senators and reps aren’t saved in your phone yet, text your zip code to 1-520-200-2223. You’ll get a text back IMMEDIATELY with everyone’s contact info.
